Featured Celebration – Mermaid 1st Birthday Party

Speaking from experience, after years of planning boy birthdays it’s so much fun to do one for a little girl. Such was the case for Drew (of DrewB Photography and mom*tog) as she began to put together the celebration for her adorable daughter, Kennedy.
With Kennedy’s bright red hair and beautiful blue eyes, and big brother Brayden’s love of the movie The Little Mermaid, it’s no wonder they decided to do a mermaid 1st birthday party.

As a photographer, Drew has a wonderful eye for detail. As a crafty mama, she created all of the super cute décor items for the party. I’m a big fan of how she used simple and natural sea-inspired elements to complement the mermaid theme. And, of course, there were a lot of pictures up from Kennedy’s 1st year.

Drew knew exactly what she wanted for Kennedy’s birthday cake months before the actual event – something pretty, girly and yummy! We did ribbons of buttercream in an aqua color to reflect the texture and movement of water. Drew outdid herself by also making homemade donuts to complete the sweets table.

The cake smash is always my favorite part of any 1st birthday. Kennedy’s progression from inquisitive to crying is priceless.

What a lovely party (and beautiful photos) for such a precious little mermaid!
