It seems like a million years ago that I worked in a traditional office setting - with business meetings, and marketing reports, and hours spent on email. As we get close to our five-year mark of owning Beverly’s Best Bakery I realize just how happy I am with my new “office” – where sugar, and design, and creating fill my hours now.
Let me be honest, this bakery stuff is hard work! Managing a small business is tough stuff! But, it’s also a lot of fun. It’s the fun part that people are always curious about so I thought I’d share some of what’s been happening in the kitchen as we prepared new cake models for a photo shoot we had this week.
Here I am working on a bird-themed cake that’s rustic with a bit of whimsy. The design elements of this cake include fondant coverage, an imprinted curly branch pattern with a regal bird perched on top, and hand painted color.
One of our decorators, Chanté, worked on bringing a romantic, baroque cake to life. The design elements for this elaborate cake include fondant coverage in various colors, swags of petite royal icing roses, fondant stripes with tied fondant bows, raised fondant emblems hand painted in metallic gold, and a cluster of large gumpaste roses.
To see the finished cake models, along with many others that we’ve just completed, you can find them on display in the bakery. Or, I’ll be posting images from our photo shoot once I receive them. The shoot was extra special, so I’m super excited to share it with you soon!
Now, I’d better head back to the office to get cakes and orders ready for this coming weekend!!!
